Acolher: recipes with
an accent
Acolher: recipes with an accent is a recipe book about the relation between food and migration. The intention of this project is to show the cultural significance attached to the food that we eat. It shines a light into food's essential role on the process of insertion of an immigrant's into a new culture and in the maintenance of their cultural roots.
Moreover, the book aims to foster empathy towards immigrants, using food as a sort of universal language. Besides the recipes, the book also features a brief story of an immigrant from each country, who I interviewed during my research, as well as the story of each of the recipes. My belief is that behind each dish, there is a story that makes the food even tastier.
