“So long, overseas” was my final project for my MA at Camberwell College of Arts (UAL). It is an illustrated book that looks at the experience of migration through a poetic lens. Inspired by the Freudian concept of “the uncanny”, the book follows a character as she delves into the unknown, uncovering what is uncomfortable within the familiar and crafting familiarity in the foreign.  

The project originates from my family history, as a way to explore a story that is at the same time personal and collective. It is an investigation of heritage through material culture and language, and an act of translation not only between English and Portuguese, but also between image and text.
